Territorial Administration Minister Davit Khudatyan told reporters in the National Assembly that the ruling party is calmly preparing for the 2026 parliamentary elections. Commenting on the initiative by the "I Have Honor" faction to declare no confidence in the Prime Minister and nominate Davit Hambardzumyan as a replacement, Khudatyan emphasized it is their legal right: "They can do whatever they want."
He noted that numerous candidates have been proposed over time, including prominent opposition figures and, after their failures, even influential clergy involved in politics. "Now they are nominating local officials. As the governing majority, we are not concerned about nominations from the Republican Party or others. We are confident that the impeachment process will fail. We are calmly preparing for the 2026 parliamentary elections with the confidence that we will achieve a decisive majority—victory with 50+1 percent of the vote," Khudatyan stated, according to Panorama.am .
Regarding the recent local elections in Gyumri and Parakar, where ruling party candidates were defeated, the minister said these were minor local contests without major political significance. "People mostly voted based on individual personalities. That's why our candidate led in Gyumri. Yes, the number of votes was insufficient, and the opposition managed to form a coalition and take power there. But these are local elections. The nature of their locality is evident in the fact that the same political force, on the same day, 80 kilometers apart, can get 57% in one place and only 3% in another, not even crossing the threshold."
He referred specifically to the "Country to Live" party as an example. "This proves the elections were determined by individual candidates, not political weight. So we are not worried. And I’m sure you don’t believe that based on Gyumri’s example, the Communist Party could win 20% or more nationally in 2026. There is nothing to worry about here either," Khudatyan concluded.
