As part of the United Nations’ Ocean Conference, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed the "Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction" on behalf of Armenia.

This is the first international treaty to regulate the protection of marine biodiversity beyond national borders, marking a key step in promoting sustainable development.

On the same day, the agreement was signed simultaneously by 18 countries, bringing the total number of signatories to 134.

The treaty has already been ratified by 50 countries, 18 of which officially submitted their instruments of ratification during the same ceremony held at the conference.
