Аrmenian FM meets IAEA chief at UN ocean summit

On June 10, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi. The meeting took place in Nice, on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference.

The two officials discussed the progress of cooperation between Armenia and the IAEA, focusing on continuous initiatives aimed at the safe use of nuclear energy, as well as on the effective application of opportunities offered by advances in nuclear science and technology.

They also addressed Armenia’s national priorities in the field of nuclear energy and cooperation frameworks established with international partners in this context.

Mirzoyan and Grossi also exchanged views on current regional developments.

According to Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan, ongoing feasibility studies for the construction of a new nuclear power unit in Armenia will determine its model, taking into account the characteristics of the country’s energy system as well as capacity and financing structure.
