The comprehensive review of the construction project for Yerevan Metro’s new Ajapnyak station has been successfully completed, and the next step is to organize the construction tender and secure appropriate funding. This was announced by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan at a joint session of the National Assembly’s standing committees.
“The project, perhaps one of the most complex since Armenia’s independence, underwent a comprehensive review that took about seven months. What remains now is to organize the construction tender and ensure financing,” Avinyan stated, as reported by Armenpress.
He noted that the government hasn’t implemented a metro project of this scale in over four decades, resulting in a significant loss of expertise, which has made progress more difficult.
“When processes like this experience long pauses, it becomes necessary to rebuild that capacity. I’m confident we will build this station,” the mayor emphasized.
Avinyan also noted that a technical oversight tender is expected to be held soon.
Yerevan’s 11th metro station, Ajapnyak, has received a positive conclusion from the state comprehensive examination. The next steps include government approval of full funding, expropriation and resettlement in affected areas, and preparations for the construction tender.
In March 2024, it was announced that the tender for the project and cost documentation for the Ajapnyak station had concluded, and a contract was signed with the winning company. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024.
