Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Davit Khudatyan, announced that a tender will soon be held for the construction of two small reservoirs. One will be located near the village of Yelpin in Vayots Dzor, and the other on the Kasagh River in Aragatsotn Province, Sputnik Armenia reports.
According to the minister, designs and feasibility studies for these reservoirs were completed last year.
He also noted that project documentation is still being developed for three other small reservoirs—in Astghadzor and Lichk in Gegharkunik Province, and in Artik, Shirak Province.
Turning to large reservoir projects, Khudatyan said that construction has been completed at the Vedi reservoir in Ararat Province, but it has not yet been commissioned.
Regarding the Kaps reservoir in Shirak Province, Khudatyan stated that the contractor has delayed the construction, and the ministry is now evaluating whether to continue cooperation with the company.
Construction of the Kaps reservoir began in 1985, but slowed significantly after the December 7, 1988 earthquake and was entirely suspended in 1993. To date, 280 hectares of the planned 430-hectare basin have been completed.
