Tavush governor: no border demarcation underway now

Tavush governor says no border demarcation process is currently underway.

Hayk Ghalumyan, governor of Armenia’s Tavush Province, told reporters in parliament that, according to his information, there is no ongoing process related to border demarcation at the moment.

He stated that he supports the view that the demarcated section of Tavush Province is the most secure part of Armenia’s border, 1lurer.am reports.

Regarding concerns among residents of demarcated areas, Ghalumyan said, “Since the demarcation process began in 2024, there was, of course, some concern, which was also fueled by certain political circles. But right now, there is no cause for concern.”

In response to a journalist’s question claiming some families had left Kirants due to the demarcation process, Ghalumyan refuted it.

“That’s simply not true. I assure you, not a single person has left the village of Kirants. Today, as part of a 16-million dram housing program, 50 new homes are being built in Kirants,” he said.

The office of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan also responded to a media article on the demarcation issue, calling it “entirely false.” It noted that all border-related matters are addressed solely through joint work by official state commissions.

“The article published by Hraparak on June 10, titled ‘Hajiyev and Grigoryan have already drawn the border; 180 sq.km to be handed over to the enemy,’ contains information that is entirely false and does not reflect reality,” the statement read.
