Lilit Minasyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract faction, stated that the opposition’s attempt to initiate an impeachment process is bound to fail. She dismissed the idea entirely, emphasizing that “there isn’t a single person in Civil Contract who could see Davit Hambardzumyan as a prime ministerial candidate—that’s just laughable,” Pastinfo reports.
Minasyan asserted that there is no reason for concern. She believes the opposition alliances I Have Honor and “Armenia” have launched the initiative to claim the lead opposition status, rather than achieve any tangible result. “Yesterday, they said they’d submit signatures if street protests start, but not otherwise. Later, they published the signatures. I still don’t know whether the signatures were actually submitted or not.”
She characterized the impeachment effort as an internal blame game aimed at gaining political capital and consolidating their bases. “This process has nothing to do with removing Civil Contract from power.”
Minasyan stressed that the opposition lacks the required two independent MP signatures, and therefore the 28 from Armenia plus six more are insufficient to initiate impeachment.
“Their nominee can’t even make it to the National Assembly, unfortunately—though we would have liked to hear his political views and geopolitical insights. But really, nothing new is happening,” she added.
Asked whether she would want to hear Edmon Marukyan’s perspectives, Minasyan said that Marukyan is already an established political figure, while the mayor of Masis, in her view, has not clearly defined his positions beyond local governance.
In response to reporters noting past surprises—like the exits of Aghazaryan and Aslanyan from Civil Contract—Minasyan assured that the party is now more unified, staying true to its values and focused around the prime minister.
“We do see some concerning developments regarding statehood. But there’s absolutely no reason to worry, because I really don’t think you’ll find a single Civil Contract member who sees Davit Hambardzumyan as a prime ministerial candidate—that’s simply absurd,” she said.
She also urged the opposition to focus on elections and to develop a clear political agenda. “We’re the only political force with a real agenda, and it’s one that citizens support,” Minasyan concluded.
The opposition’s candidate for prime minister in the impeachment push, Masis mayor Davit Hambardzumyan, has pledged to help intensify street protests. Meanwhile, Armenia faction leader Seyran Ohanyan published 28 signatures on Facebook, confirming that alone they’re insufficient. MP Ishkhan Saghatelyan has said the impeachment will proceed only if at least two more signatures and street momentum are secured.
