Lead: Israel has launched airstrikes on Iran’s state television headquarters in Tehran, reportedly killing three employees and urging evacuation.
Israel’s Defense Forces carried out an airstrike on June 16 targeting the building of Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB in northern Tehran; the explosion was captured live on air. The anchor, delivering an angry speech against Israel, left the studio, and the broadcast soon resumed, according to Fars news agency.
Images and videos shared on social media show plumes of smoke rising from the burning building, as reported by Deutsche Welle .
The IDF stated the building was “used by the Iranian military under the guise of civilian activities.”
Prior to the strike, Israeli forces warned approximately 300,000 residents of northeastern Tehran in Persian to evacuate immediately, as the IDF “will carry out operations against the Iranian regime’s military infrastructure” in the coming hours, reports RIA Novosti .
During the night, Israel’s air force struck several major military sites of the Iranian regime in western Iran. The strikes destroyed dozens of surface-to-surface missile depots and launch sites, as well as surface-to-air missile launchers and UAV storage facilities .
Fars agency, via RIA Novosti, reported the death toll at the Iranian state broadcaster’s office has reached three.
U.S. President Donald Trump harshly criticized Iran, stating it should have accepted the deal he previously offered. He also urged residents of Tehran to evacuate:
“What a disgrace and waste of human life. Simply put, Iran should not have nuclear weapons. I have said that many times. Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran,” he wrote on Truth Social .
Israel’s Defense Forces said that on the night of June 17, Israel’s air force again struck several Iranian military targets.
Israel initiated the campaign against Iran, accusing it of pursuing a covert military‑nuclear program that Tel Aviv says has reached a “point of no return.” Targets have included nuclear facilities, senior generals, prominent nuclear physicists, airbases, air-defense systems, and surface‑to‑surface missiles.
Iran denies a military component in its nuclear program and has retaliated with missile strikes and attack drones, targeting Israeli military and defense‑industrial sites.
Israel claims over 20 dead and more than 600 wounded. Iran reports over 220 killed and at least 1,800 injured.
Israel and Iran continue daily strikes; Tel Aviv vows to press until Iran’s nuclear program is eliminated, while Tehran promises relentless bombardment until Israeli attacks cease.
