Electric network will be state-run soon

Pashinyan announces swift nationalization of Armenia’s power network, promising to consider workers' dedication.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced via Facebook that the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) “must be nationalized” and that the process “will happen quickly.”

He noted that after the nationalization, the conscientiousness of employees will be taken into account.

“Someone says, ‘I don’t care about them or their power grid.’ That means they never even considered the ENA as their own and do not care about this strategically important institution, its consumers, or its employees. If it’s not theirs, then whose is it? It belongs to the consumers and the employees — in other words, to the people,” he wrote.

“I believe the time has come for the Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC to be nationalized. It will happen swiftly, and I have instructed all ENA employees to fulfill their duties conscientiously.”

“After nationalization, integrity will be acknowledged,” he added.

On the night of June 18, businessman Samvel Karapetyan left his residence in Yerevan with law enforcement. Earlier that evening, he had made a statement supporting the Armenian Apostolic Church, declaring: “I stand with our church and people. No matter how they try to tarnish things, I don’t care about them or their electric grid. Everything will be fine — the people will have their say, and [those in power] will realize they were wrong.”
