Tatevik Karapetyan, daughter of businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, issued a statement declaring that it is not only her family’s fate being decided, but “everything we have held sacred for centuries is now being tested.”

“We are grateful to all those who are with us now, who stand with our family. Thank you for your supportive words, your faith, and for upholding the common principles and foundations of our nation. This is truly important.

But today, words alone are not enough. Our family has always stood by its people. In the most difficult moments for the country, we have defended and upheld justice,” the statement reads.

She called on all supporters to gather outside the Investigative Committee building located at 5 Mazmanyan Street.

“Let everyone see that he is not alone. And we are not alone either,” she added.

In the early hours of June 18, Samvel Karapetyan reportedly left his residence in Yerevan and departed with law enforcement officers. A few hours prior, he had made a public statement in support of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

“I stand with our Church and our people. No matter how much they try to defame it, no electric grid... I couldn’t care less about them or their grid. Everything will be fine; the people will make their voice heard, and they will understand they were wrong,” Karapetyan said.

In response to Karapetyan’s statement, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan posted: “Why have the immoral ‘clergymen’ and their immoral ‘benefactors’ become active again? No problem—we’ll silence them again. This time, for good.” He later added that the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) should be nationalized—and quickly.
