No meeting planned between Pashinyan and Aliyev in Turkey

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has no scheduled meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Turkey, the prime minister’s press secretary Nazeli Baghdasaryan announced, Aysor.am reports.

“We are not planning a meeting,” Baghdasaryan said.

Arman Yeghoyan, a lawmaker from the Civil Contract faction, also confirmed no meeting is planned but noted that “frequently the decision is made on the spot.”

“I have no information. It is not scheduled. But you know how international meetings go—often decisions are taken on location. I don’t see anything unusual in that. I think the visit is very important. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the first bilateral visit since independence. Especially in this hot region, I believe it’s necessary to talk with Turkey and understand each other,” he told 1lurer.am .

Asked what agenda a possible trilateral meeting might include, Yeghoyan said it would likely focus on a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“For now the agenda is Armenia‑Turkey relations, which our negotiators have been working on for years. That agenda has already reached the highest political level,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that at the invitation of the Turkish president, Pashinyan will travel to Turkey on a working visit on June 20. According to the prime minister, a joint declaration will be issued regarding the visit’s agenda. Aliyev is due in Turkey on June 19.
