Seven years tell story of success, not failure, says Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told the National Assembly that the past seven years represent a narrative of success, not failure.

“A lot has been said that we lost Nagorno‑Karabakh. We did not lose Nagorno‑Karabakh; rather, we found the Republic of Armenia—this is the truth,” he said, according to Aysor.am .

Pashinyan said that the Nagorno‑Karabakh issue had been used as a noose to try to prevent Armenia from finding itself.

“Armenia is consolidating. I am more optimistic about Armenia’s future than ever before,” the prime minister added.

He also noted that when he assumed office in 2018, he felt like a provisional prime minister, and only from October 6, 2022, did he feel like the fully legitimate prime minister.

“In June 2025, this has changed most importantly for me—I record that I am the full and complete prime minister of Armenia,” Pashinyan told parliament.

According to him, this transformation became possible thanks to those who sacrificed their lives and with the support of the Armenian people.

“We did not realize fully that we are the government of the Republic of Armenia, that we are a state. I, yes, record that in 2018 and 2019 I was a frontier prime minister, and after November 2020 perhaps in the most frontier‑line position. I believe this was a turning point when we asked ourselves: what do we want?

We were on the edge of the final frontier line and asked ourselves: do we want to cross that line? We decided that we do not want to cross it. That is the point where we decided that elections must be held in Armenia and the people must make the decision,” he said.

Pashinyan added that since October 6, 2022, he has been the first leader to fully acknowledge the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.

On October 6, 2022, in Prague, Armenia and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter and the 1991 Alma‑Ata Declaration, through which both sides recognize each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
