France to evacuate citizens from Iran via Armenia, Turkey

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has urged French nationals currently in Iran to promptly inform the French embassy of their intention to be evacuated.

“Visa-free travel is possible to Armenia and Turkey, whose borders remain open,” Barrot wrote, as reported by Armenpress.

He stated that those who have contacted the embassy but cannot reach the border crossings of Armenia or Turkey on their own are expected to be evacuated later this week via a special convoy.

According to Barrot, special teams have already been deployed as of June 20 to the Armenian and Turkish border areas with Iran. These teams are prepared to receive French citizens and provide necessary consular support.

He added that the evacuees will be transported to airports in Armenia or Turkey, from where they can return to France by air, as both countries' airspace remains operational.

Amid growing tensions between Israel and Iran, India, China, and Russia have also expressed interest in using Armenian territory as a corridor to evacuate their citizens from Iran.
