Following a meeting with NSS (National Security Service) representatives, parents of missing servicemen opened Baghramyan Avenue, marking a pause in their demonstration.
David Sanamyan, colonel and head of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the NSS, reached out to the protesting parents on Baghramyan Avenue. He proposed temporarily suspending the protest, promising to organize an imminent meeting with the acting NSS director. Sanamyan then personally visited the parents at the site.
Arman Kirakosyan, a relative of a missing serviceman, explained that blocking the avenue aimed to draw public attention to the plight of families of the missing.
“Our public must understand that our children went with patriotism, with a state-minded attitude. These children were raised by these parents. We have stated our demand. The NSS representative approached us, we had a discussion, and decided to reach a joint compromise. For now, we will suspend the action, the procession will resume, and they promised us a meeting,” he said.
The protest began on June 18, following the dismissal of NSS Director Armen Abazyan. Initially, protestors demanded Abazyan’s reinstatement; later, they called for a meeting with NSS Acting Director Andranik Simonyan.
Official data indicates that since the early 1990s, 993 Armenians have been declared missing, and 191 have been reported missing after the 44-day war.
