The “Sacred Struggle” movement has issued a statement on the recent arrests carried out by authorities, describing them as “clear political terrorism.” The declaration was published on the movement’s Telegram channel.
According to the movement, the timing of the arrests coincided with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey.
“The evil regime once again revealed its fear and authoritarian nature. Several dozen supporters of Sacred Struggle, including members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, were illegally detained and threatened in an attempt to suppress their participation in our cause.
This is an act of political terrorism—denying people their rights to free speech, expression, and peaceful action.
We believe this crackdown was prompted by the Pashinyan–Erdogan summit in Turkey, where new conspiratorial plans are likely being forged against our nation and people.
These unlawful actions have been celebrated by Azerbaijani media, which hailed them as ‘brilliant news from Yerevan’ and labeled Sacred Struggle a ‘revanchist movement.’
Although we have low expectations, we still hope international bodies will properly assess the current illegal actions of Armenia’s political leadership and law enforcement agencies.
We extend our appreciation to the media, human rights defenders, and all individuals and organizations who have shown support.
We express our encouragement to all Sacred Struggle participants who were unlawfully detained—who, despite repression, have become even more determined in their path toward truth.
Evil must be removed. Our victory is inevitable,” the statement concludes.
On June 18, dozens of supporters of Sacred Struggle and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation were detained. In response to media inquiries, the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that “operational information was received regarding planned actions aimed at disturbing public order.”
