IAEA chief urges nuclear talks with Iran

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has called for renewed negotiations with Iran, emphasizing it as the only way to ensure Tehran does not acquire nuclear weapons in the long term.

“To obtain long-term guarantees that Iran will not possess nuclear weapons and to maintain the global nonproliferation regime’s long-term effectiveness, we must return to negotiations,” Grossi said, as reported by RIA Novosti.

He made these remarks while addressing the IAEA’s Board of Governors.

On the night of June 22, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a successful strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. He later claimed the sites had been completely destroyed and described the operation as a major military achievement. Since June 13, Israel has carried out daily airstrikes on Iranian territory aimed at dismantling the Islamic Republic’s missile and nuclear programs.
