Iranian expert: Israel using Azerbaijani airspace for attacks

A growing number of Iranian analysts, experts, and military specialists have raised serious concerns on social media and in media interviews that Israel is carrying out airstrikes against Iran using Azerbaijani airspace.

Among them is Ehsan Movahedian, an Iranian expert on South Caucasus affairs and a political science lecturer at Tehran’s Allameh Tabataba’i University. According to Armenpress, he has presented several arguments indicating that Israeli military aircraft have operated through Azerbaijan’s airspace.

Referring to reports suggesting some Israeli drones attacking Iran had come from Nakhichevan, Movahedian stated that these UAVs used Azerbaijani airspace to target locations in Iran, a claim reportedly supported by eyewitness accounts.

He noted that Iran's air defense near Bandar Anzali recently intercepted several small drones, and witnesses in Parsabad and Moghan said the drones had crossed the border from Azerbaijan. Movahedian added that an F-35 jet that targeted Iran’s state broadcaster was reportedly attempting to enter from Julfa, implying it had used either Turkish or Azerbaijani airspace.

The analyst has posted several social media updates aiming to substantiate his claims that Israel is using both Nakhichevan and mainland Azerbaijan as launchpads for strikes on strategic sites across Iran. In one post on X, he reiterated accusations against Baku, sharing an image purportedly showing a discarded Israeli fighter jet fuel tank found along the Caspian Sea coast.
