Armenia has been elected a member of the Intergovernmental Committee under the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The country was also appointed as vice-chair, representing the Eastern European regional group in the committee’s bureau.
The 10th session of the Conference of Parties to the 2005 Convention was held from June 18 to 20 at UNESCO headquarters. Armenia’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO reports that Aram Hakobyan, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, delivered remarks on the secretariat’s recent activities, highlighting the need for responses to challenges posed by emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, collaboration with civil society, the continuity of artists' work during crises, and safeguarding cultural life.
Armenia’s delegation also addressed other key agenda items, including the creation of additional legal tools to tackle technological challenges, expert group initiatives, and events marking the Convention’s 20th anniversary.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Armenia presented a performance by the Yeraz Dance Ensemble at UNESCO headquarters.
