Lawyer Arsen Babayan has called for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign immediately, responding to the latter’s Facebook post urging the Catholicos to “vacate the Catholicosate at once.”
“The Republic of Armenia is the epicenter of our national statehood. When that epicenter is led by individuals who have violated their constitutional oath, are morally and politically degenerate, and whose behavior is reprehensible even to ordinary citizens, then the essence of our statehood is in question,” Babayan wrote on Facebook.
He described himself as a conscientious citizen who respects national symbols, participates in elections with faith, and is deeply concerned about the country’s future. “We cannot allow the decay of the epicenter of our national statehood to continue,” he said.
Babayan argued that it is time for every patriotic citizen and ethical political figure to distance themselves from what he termed the power-hungry, corrupt, and treasonous behavior of certain high-ranking officials and to restore the moral and legal imperative defined by the Constitution and the will of the people.
“We urge Nikol Pashinyan to resign as Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia immediately,” he declared.
He also appealed to all patriotic citizens and officials committed to public service to clearly articulate their demand: “The National Assembly and the government must rid this country of the destructive and shameless presence of this administration.”
Earlier, Pashinyan had written that “the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is the epicenter of our national morality. When that epicenter is led by people who have broken their oath before God and whose character and lifestyle are degenerate and reprehensible, even to secular people, our morality is in question.”
