Armenia’s Ministry of Justice has held a public consultation on legislative amendments that would introduce a legal mechanism for removing public content deemed insulting or defamatory, following a decision by the Constitutional Court.

The discussion, led by Deputy Minister of Justice Tigran Dadunts, focused on draft amendments to the Civil Code and the Law on Mass Media. According to the Ministry, the proposed changes are intended to align national legislation with the court’s ruling and enhance legal protection against defamation and insult in public discourse.

Dadunts presented the key provisions and goals of the bills, stressing the importance of a collaborative and constructive dialogue with media professionals during the legislative process.

During the session, Margarita Zalibekyan, head of the ministry’s legal support department, gave a detailed overview of the full package of proposed amendments to the Law on Mass Media. She also referenced international practices, emphasizing their relevance in shaping the reforms.

Media representatives participating in the meeting voiced their concerns, suggestions, and questions. Dadunts confirmed that all feedback will be collected and reviewed in the coming weeks.
