Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated on Facebook that law enforcement agencies had foiled a large-scale and “vile” plan aimed at seizing power in the country. He emphasized that the plan was designed to destabilize the Republic of Armenia and take power through violence.
“The law enforcement agencies have prevented a large-scale, vile ‘criminal-oligarchic-clerical’ plan to destabilize the Republic of Armenia and seize power,” Pashinyan wrote.
He shared the Investigative Committee’s statement, which claimed that members and leaders of the “Sacred Struggle” movement had planned terrorist acts and a power grab in Armenia.
Early on June 25, law enforcement began searches targeting individuals associated with the movement. The Investigative Committee alleges that those involved were plotting terrorist actions and an attempt to overthrow the government.
On June 24, Pashinyan also shared a Civic.am article titled “The Opposition’s Coup Plan,” commenting: “This process will go down in history as the ‘failed coup of the traitors.’”
