Hrayr Deacon Hakobyan and Aghasi Arshakyan charged with preparing terrorism

Hrayr Deacon Hakobyan and Aghasi Arshakyan have been charged with preparing acts of terrorism and the seizure of state power, according to their defense attorney Hovsep Sargsyan, who spoke with reporters.

Both defendants deny the charges brought against them, Pastinfo reports.

Sargsyan added that no pre-trial detention motion has been submitted yet, though such a measure might be considered in the near future. He also noted that the defense has not yet been granted access to the full case materials.

On the morning of June 25, law enforcement launched searches at the homes of members of the "Holy Struggle" movement. The Investigative Committee alleges that participants and leaders of the movement planned terrorist acts and actions aimed at seizing power in Armenia.

On June 24, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan shared a civic.am article titled “The Opposition’s Coup Plan” on Facebook, calling the developments “the failed coup of traitors.”
