Mher Melkonyan, a member of Armenia’s “Hayastan” parliamentary faction, dismissed audio recordings published by the Investigative Committee as fabricated and politically motivated.
“I’m confident it’s all fake,” Melkonyan told Radar Armenia. “From the beginning, it’s been built on lies and deceit. The law enforcement system is now a hostage in the hands of a clown.”
He added that the actions taken by authorities are unlawful and predicted those responsible will face severe consequences “before both the law and God.”
When asked whether such extreme methods would be justifiable if the tapes turned out to be real, Melkonyan reiterated: “I’m sure it’s all fake. Such a conversation simply could not have happened, let alone been recorded.”
The Investigative Committee recently conducted searches at the homes of opposition figures and detained 14 individuals, including Bishop Bagrat, leader of the “Holy Struggle” movement. The committee released audio recordings it claims involve Bagrat discussing plans for bombings, assassinations, and other acts of terrorism.
