Armenian MP Levon Kocharyan from the Armenia faction stated that the recent criminal proceedings initiated against opposition lawmakers Seyran Ohanyan, Artsvik Minasyan, and Artur Sargsyan are intended to spread fear and discredit the opposition.
“The motions presented by the authorities inspire no confidence. It’s complete absurdity,” Kocharyan told Aysor.am .
When asked by a journalist whether he believed the same process might be used against him, Kocharyan replied, “In this genre of absurdity, anything is possible. Legally, dragging me into this process (preparation of terrorism) would be a farce. Their goal is to create noise. They chop up recordings here and there, select the parts they like. They want to instill fear and discredit the opposition.”
On the morning of June 25, law enforcement authorities conducted searches at the residences of supporters of the Sacred Struggle movement. The Investigative Committee stated that members and leaders of the movement were “planning to carry out terrorist acts and actions aimed at seizing power in Armenia.” Later, it was revealed that the movement’s leader, Archbishop Bagrat, was arrested for two months. Fourteen others were also detained.
