Sixteen individuals have been arrested in the case involving Archbishop Bagrat, leader of the Sacred Struggle movement, according to lawyer Ruben Melikyan.
Melikyan announced that one of the detainees is Vahagn Chakhalyan, head of the Kamq civil initiative and a known activist, who was arrested on July 4.
He reminded that the agenda of the upcoming special session of the National Assembly includes the issue of lifting the parliamentary immunity of opposition Armenia faction MP Artur Sargsyan.
Melikyan did not rule out the possibility of additional individuals being implicated in the case.
On the morning of June 25, law enforcement agencies began conducting searches at the homes of Sacred Struggle supporters. According to the Investigative Committee, participants and leaders of the movement planned to carry out terrorist acts and seize power in Armenia. Later, it was reported that Archbishop Bagrat, the movement’s leader, had been detained for two months. Fourteen others were also arrested.
