The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted a protest note to the Russian ambassador concerning statements made by Russian state media and officials about the Armenian authorities, Radar Armenia reports.
The note, made public due to its high relevance to Armenian citizens and intense public debate, expresses “strong protest” over “clearly unfriendly and often hostile propaganda by Russian mass media, driven by comments from some officials, deputies of the State Duma, media outlets, and experts.”
It emphasizes that “insulting remarks aired live on Russian state television, targeting Armenia’s authorities, are absolutely unacceptable and undermine the positive outcomes of recent high‑level visits between Armenia and the Russian Federation.”
The note highlights that “statements by certain State Duma deputies regarding Armenia’s legal actions to prevent an attempted coup are not only surprising but also infuriating.” According to those statements, the arrest of alleged coup plotters is viewed as “another unfriendly act by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.”
Such comments are described in the note as absurd—how prevention of a coup could be unfriendly is incomprehensible—and as gross interference in Armenia’s internal affairs. It further suggests that this information campaign is “deliberately intended to destabilize democracy, rule of law, and constitutional order in Armenia.”
The ministry has urged Russian counterparts “to take immediate and effective measures to end these unfriendly actions against Armenia.”
Earlier, National Assembly speaker Alen Simonyan told reporters that the possibility of suspending Russian broadcasters in Armenia should be seriously considered.
