Parliament lifts immunity of Ohanyan, Minasyan

Members of the Armenian Parliament have voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of opposition deputies Seyran Ohanyan and Artsvik Minasyan, both members of the Armenia alliance. The vote followed a closed secret ballot, the results of which were announced by Narek Babayan, chair of the National Assembly's counting commission, reports Factor.am .

All 59 MPs who participated in the vote supported the prosecutor's request. The Armenia and I Have Honor factions boycotted the vote.

During the session, Civil Contract MP Artur Hovhannisyan addressed Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, noting that “wiretapped recordings from Vazgen Galstanyan's residence included other individuals, such as Ishkhan Saghatelyan”, according to Radar Armenia.

"Essentially, an entire political party appears to be involved in executing this process. Ishkhan Saghatelyan promises numbers, and Garnik Danielyan was one of those who, on the day of the searches, declared that he paid the rent for Vazgen Galstanyan’s residence. That is, the rent for a place where terrorism was being organized," Hovhannisyan stated.

In response, Prosecutor General Vardapetyan said investigations and inspections are still ongoing involving other individuals.

"Once sufficient factual evidence is available, the Prosecutor’s Office will address Parliament," she said.

She emphasized the importance of “allowing the investigation to proceed effectively” and cautioned against making predictions. "It’s not excluded that other individuals, including MPs, may face charges and motions related to detention," Vardapetyan added.
