Arthur Sargsyan, a member of the National Assembly from the Hayastan faction, has been detained for two months. The decision was made by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Artak Karapetyan, following a motion approved by the court, reports Pastinfo.
Sargsyan is accused of "preparing to commit acts of terrorism and to usurp state power" in connection with a criminal case involving Archbishop Bagrat and several others.
On July 8, while the Armenian National Assembly was debating a motion by Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan to lift his parliamentary immunity, Sargsyan went to the Investigative Committee, anticipating his arrest.
The motion to prosecute Sargsyan publicly is part of a broader investigation into the leaders and participants of the “Sacred Struggle” movement, suspected of plotting terrorism and a power grab.
