Armenian deputy FM’s remarks misrepresented, ministry says

Armenia’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ani Badalyan stated on Facebook that the words of Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan have been distorted by both media outlets and various social media users.

"Today, in response to a journalist's question, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan reiterated Armenia’s principled position regarding the unblocking of regional transport routes. In his statement, the Deputy Minister repeatedly emphasized Armenia’s key principles—sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national jurisdiction—as essential criteria for any proposed solutions, leaving no room for misinterpretation. He categorically rejected any notion or term of 'control' by a third party," the statement reads.

Despite this, according to the spokesperson, some media and social media users misrepresented the statement, aiming to spread misleading headlines and baseless controversy amid ongoing negotiations in Abu Dhabi.

The ministry reiterated that the vision for unblocking regional connections is anchored in the above fundamental principles and urged media outlets to refrain from deliberate distortion of facts. It called for the removal or correction of misrepresented publications and for the dissemination of the official clarification.

A direct quote from Deputy Minister Safaryan was included: "This process must be implemented under the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia. If it meets these principles—yes, it can be implemented."
