Armenia publishes revised national anthem version

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia has officially released a newly edited version of the national anthem, including both full and shortened musical renditions. These changes were made in accordance with amendments to the “Law on the National Anthem of the Republic of Armenia,” which came into effect in April 2025.

The updated anthem, titled “Mer Hayrenik” (“Our Homeland”), is based on lyrics by Mikael Nalbandyan and music composed by Barsegh Kanachyan. It now exists in several formats: full and shortened versions suitable for choir and orchestra, choir-only, and orchestra-only performances.

In all educational institutions in Armenia—general, preschool, vocational, and secondary specialized—regardless of ownership, performing the anthem is mandatory every Monday before the start of classes.

The anthem is also to be performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of official international tournaments and competitions held within Armenia, including during awards ceremonies. If such events occur abroad, the anthem must be played in accordance with the host country’s laws.

Additionally, the anthem must be played at all state-level official ceremonial events.
