A new law on cybersecurity is expected to be adopted soon in Armenia, introducing fresh standards and regulations for government institutions and sectors of critical economic importance. The announcement was made by Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan during the opening of a cybersecurity hackathon for professionals from both public and private sectors.
Hayrapetyan emphasized that effective protection of strategic infrastructure is only possible through highly qualified professionals. The hackathon, he noted, serves this goal—providing participants with hands-on challenges to counter simulated cyberattacks under the guidance of international experts, reports Sputnik Armenia.
The upcoming law, Hayrapetyan stated, will establish "the rules of the game" for IT security specialists and organizations—public or private—that will be obligated to involve them. He stressed the importance of accelerating the legislative process.
“We need to move from a passive approach, where we respond to cyberattacks, to a proactive one—training specialists and preventing threats before they happen,” he said.
The draft law is part of a broader legislative initiative that also includes regulations on personal data protection and the creation of a unified national registry.
