Armenia calls Abu Dhabi talks successful and meaningful

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the recent meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Abu Dhabi a potentially serious foundation for advancing the peace process.

Responding to media inquiries, the MFA emphasized that the leaders’ meeting could serve as a crucial step forward in implementing peace. “The meeting in Abu Dhabi between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan may become a serious foundation for furthering the peace process,” the ministry stated.

According to the MFA, both sides released nearly identical official press statements following the meeting. “If there had been any agreement on a peace treaty, the public would have been informed accordingly,” the ministry added.

Regarding the unblocking of regional communications, the ministry referred to the latest official statement by its spokesperson, reiterating Armenia’s consistent position. “There is no agreement other than what has been officially declared, and no alternative understanding can exist,” it stressed, while also urging media outlets to avoid quoting irrelevant terminology commonly used in Azerbaijani media.

The ministry noted that the public is well aware of the Armenian government’s approach to the peace agenda. All positions expressed in Abu Dhabi align with these strategies, including the unblocking of regional routes as laid out in Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace initiative.

The ministry concluded by affirming that the Armenian government considers the meeting successful and sees it as a strong potential basis for future peace-building.

On July 10, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev held a five-hour meeting in Abu Dhabi to discuss various aspects of normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan interstate relations. Both sides confirmed that bilateral dialogue remains the most effective format for addressing all related issues and agreed to continue results-oriented talks.
