Heritage party: Fact-finding group will resume its activities only under external pressure.
"There were no professional or political reasons for terminating the activities of the fact-finding group investigating March 1, 2008 incidents. Simply, the state system did not allow another structure to correct what was incorrigible," Larisa Alaverdyan told a press conference today. According to her, President is now faced with certain restrictions set by his predecessor.

Ms. Alaverdyan is convinced that the 2+2+1 formula promoted the group's effective work, and the authorities' allegations on the group being inoperative were untrue. "Authorities either overestimated their potentials, considering 2 representatives' presence sufficient or they thought the group's activities were just an imitation," she stated.

The speaker also said that the materials published by the group did not contain sensational facts or top secrets. Nevertheless, she noted that group members should have conducted internal discussion to find out which of them was responsible for publicizing investigation materials. Alaverdyan also informed participants that all documents collected by the group have been printed and are now kept in a safe.

The group will not resume its activities unless authorities find themselves under some internal pressure, Larisa Alaverdyan is convinced. But even if that happens, group format will be changed. Ms. Alaverdyan finds that authorities' ability to respond to internal challenges makes them stronger than such situations when they are forced to make decisions under external pressure.
