Hungary lifts veto, Armenia to receive €20M EU aid

Hungary has officially withdrawn its veto on a €20 million military assistance package for Armenia under the European Peace Facility (EPF), according to Rikard Jozwiak, Europe editor at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. The support package was initially proposed in March 2025.

“This week, Hungary finally lifted its veto on the €20 million EU military support package for Armenia under the EPF,” Jozwiak wrote on X.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Ani Badalyan, confirmed earlier that EU member states had reached a political agreement on providing this assistance. The final decision is expected to be approved in January.

In July 2024, Armenia had already received €10 million under the EPF to establish a field modular camp, including medical facilities and related support infrastructure.

In March 2025, Armenia submitted a second request for further support. However, Hungary blocked the decision at the time. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó confirmed the move, arguing that any support for Armenia should be matched with equal assistance to Azerbaijan.
