Levon Zurabyan, deputy chair of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), has announced that the party will not form an electoral alliance with the political forces of Armenia’s second and third presidents, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan.
“We’ve already made a statement regarding Kocharyan’s and Sargsyan’s political forces. During the parliamentary hearings on impeachment, I made it clear: we do not intend to form any movement or pre-election alliance with either of them. If you think we’re like other political parties that say one thing one day and another the next, walking back their earlier statements, you’re mistaken. When we say something, we mean it. This issue is resolved with strong determination,” Zurabyan said, as reported by Radar Armenia.
When asked if this position also applies to the ARF (Dashnaktsutyun), Zurabyan replied: “Is the ARF not with Kocharyan? Is that news?”
He also confirmed that ANC has held lengthy negotiations with former Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan’s Wings of Unity initiative, but said no agreement was reached.
“I still don’t fully understand their position,” Zurabyan added.
Previously, Tatoyan stated that if former presidents truly want the current prime minister not to be re-elected, they should not participate in the elections themselves.
