Pashinyan to receive Zayed Award for peace efforts

The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity committee has announced that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will be honored in February in Abu Dhabi for his commitment to peace and the normalization of inter-state relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Secretary General Mohamed Abdelsalam praised Pashinyan’s consistent and principled leadership in pursuing lasting peace. The committee highlighted that reconciliation is not a one-time act, but a long-term, ongoing process.

The 2026 laureates were selected by an independent, globally respected jury composed of prominent figures from politics, religion, and humanitarian fields. Jury members included former European Council President Charles Michel, former African Union Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat, Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça (Prefect of the Vatican's Education Department), UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell, and Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of Uzbekistan’s Presidential Administration.

The award seeks to promote solidarity and mutual understanding in international relations.

On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration at the White House following trilateral talks in Washington. During the same visit, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of their respective leaders and U.S. officials, initialed the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
