Aliyev: we supply key goods to Armenia, mainly fuel

In an interview with Euronews, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that elements of cooperation are already forming between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“We have lifted all restrictions on cargo transport with Armenia. Moreover, we’ve started supplying Armenia with highly important goods, primarily oil products, on which the country is significantly dependent. This is a mutually beneficial situation. Therefore, I believe that through joint efforts, including those of civil society, Armenia and Azerbaijan will achieve not long-term but eternal peace in the Caucasus. That is our goal,” Aliyev said, as reported by Minval.az.

Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan is “the only country in the region with energy resources capable of export to neighboring states.” He noted that Georgia has long imported such resources from Azerbaijan and that now, deliveries to Armenia have also begun.

He also expressed concern about the situation in Iran, saying: “For us, stability, predictability, and peace in the region are of the highest value.”

Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on the issue of Azerbaijani fuel imports: “As far as I understand, the fuel supply is very beneficial for Armenian citizens. I saw calls for a boycott, but also learned there were queues for that fuel.”

When asked why Azerbaijan is selling cheap fuel to Armenia, Mirzoyan responded: “Because peace is being established, cooperation must form, Azerbaijani and Turkish cargo must pass through our territory, and we must pass through theirs.”

On December 19, a train carrying 22 wagons of fuel from Azerbaijan's SOCAR company entered Armenia.
