The Armenian–Turkish Margara border checkpoint is now fully modernized and equipped with all necessary systems for customs processing of both passengers and cargo, Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) Rafael Gevorgyan said during a recent visit, Armenpress reports.

“The checkpoint is fully re-equipped and ready for customs operations. All the necessary systems are installed to serve both travelers and freight. The SRC has already designated staff for this post, and if the border reopens, we are ready to deliver all required services,” Gevorgyan affirmed.

Aram Petrosyan, head of the SRC’s department for customs control and servicing at land border points, also confirmed Margara’s operational readiness.

“The site is equipped with x-ray scanners for baggage inspection, electronic scales, x-ray devices for personal checks, and equipment for vehicle inspection,” he detailed.

Colonel Robert Gharsoyan, head of the border control unit of the National Security Service's border troops, stated that the post currently operates 24/7. Should the border reopen, personnel are fully prepared to carry out all border control functions.

Deputy Minister of Economy Anushik Avetisyan recently noted that reopening the border to third-country nationals would most immediately affect tourism flows.
