Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, stated that the Armenian government is actively working to resolve the migration restrictions affecting truck drivers transporting goods to Russia, Factor.am reports.
“We’ve established contact with Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, and we’re also in touch with the freight drivers. The 90-day limit should become 180,” Papoyan said.
He clarified that the change would be implemented via a government decision. “It will be done by government decision, which is much quicker. The decision is already in circulation; we’re now waiting for the outcome,” the minister added.
On February 5, during a visit to Moscow, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan met with the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matvienko. The discussions included recent changes to Russian migration policy, specifically affecting Armenian citizens.
Under new Russian regulations effective January 1, 2025, foreign nationals entering Russia for non-work purposes may not stay in the country for more than 90 days per calendar year. This effectively halves the permitted duration for citizens of visa-free countries.
Given the nature of cargo transportation and driver schedules, Armenia’s government is seeking to ease this restriction for Armenian freight drivers.
