Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has indirectly confirmed that the issue of Armenian prisoners held in Baku was raised during U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit to Yerevan and his meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Factor.am reports.
When asked by Factor TV whether the topic of prisoners was part of the discussions with Vance, Mirzoyan replied: “How could it not be?”
However, during the joint press conference held by Vance and Pashinyan, no direct mention was made of the prisoners. Notably, neither of the two Armenian journalists granted the opportunity to ask questions in the briefing brought up the issue of Armenians still detained in Azerbaijan.
As Prime Minister Pashinyan was leaving the hall, he did not respond to a question about the prisoners.
Back in August 2025, during Prime Minister Pashinyan’s visit to the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he intended to ask Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to release 23 Armenian Christians held in Baku. More than six months have passed since that statement, but only four individuals have been freed so far, with the remainder still in Azerbaijani custody.
