Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II has confirmed that the Bishops’ Assembly will take place.
When asked by a journalist whether the Assembly would be held, the Catholicos gave a brief response: “Yes,” Aysor.am reports.
The Assembly is scheduled for February 16–19 in the city of Sankt Pölten, Austria, and is being convened on the Catholicos’ initiative.
Questions about the meeting had emerged after six bishops of the church council were placed under a travel ban as a preventive measure.
Six bishops and one priest of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin have been designated as defendants in a case. They are accused of obstructing the enforcement of a court decision requiring Arman Saroyan to be reinstated as head of the Diocese of Masis. Bishops Makar, Hovnan, Natan, Haykazun, Mushegh, and Vahan, as well as Father Movses, were summoned by the Investigative Committee.
