Touchless border gates to operate at Zvartnots by 2027

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in parliament that once Armenia introduces biometric passports, expected in fall 2027, "touchless" entry and exit lanes will begin operating at Zvartnots International Airport and other border crossings.

“Citizens with biometric passports should be able to cross borders or board planes simply by scanning their biometric data. No contact required,” he explained, as reported by RFE/RL.

Pashinyan stressed that U.S. support is essential for implementing this technology.

“We need the United States, which has these technologies, to share them with us,” he said.

According to the prime minister, this issue was discussed with the visiting U.S. Vice President, and assurances were received.

“I was assured by our partners that they will share this technology with Armenia,” he added.
