Аrmenia to support new domestic satellite

The Armenian government has expressed its readiness to support the development of the domestic “Hayasat 2” satellite, particularly through the provision of tax incentives. High-Tech Industry Minister Mkhitar Hayrapetyan announced this at a press conference, Sputnik Armenia reports.

“I cannot provide much new information about the Armenian ‘Hayasat’ satellite. It completed its mission in the final months of 2025, and we have already stated that Armenia is seriously considering acquiring a new satellite or satellites, specifically, Earth remote sensing or space imaging satellites,” the minister said.

According to him, it is important to emphasize the functional significance of satellites of the “Hayasat” type for Armenia.

“These satellites are projects of exceptional importance for our country and hold invaluable value in terms of science, research and innovation — particularly in designing and launching a satellite with our own capabilities and expertise within Armenia. However, functionally, it is clear that the sector still has a long path of development ahead before setting more ambitious goals,” Hayrapetyan noted.

He added that for this reason, within the framework of work on the creation of the “Hayasat 2” satellite, the government has expressed willingness to support Bazunq’s partners, especially by granting tax incentives.

Armenia’s first domestically developed satellite, “Hayasat-1,” completed its mission on April 28, 2025. It was the first satellite created in Armenia, as “ArmSat,” launched in May 2022, was manufactured in Spain, although commissioned by the Armenian government.

“Hayasat-1” was successfully placed into orbit in December 2023 at an altitude of about 550 kilometers, with a planned service life of five years, but its mission concluded in April 2025.
