The total amount of the state benefit allocated for a third and subsequent child in a family could reach about $11,000 over six years, Labor and Social Affairs Minister Arsen Torosyan said in a Facebook video message.
He recalled that at a government meeting the procedure for granting benefits for a third and subsequent child was approved, under which families will receive 50,000 drams per month until the child turns six.
“I would like to do some simple math to make it clear how much support we are allocating to families for a child. We are talking about 50,000 drams per month. Multiply that by 12 and you get 600,000 drams per year. Multiply that by six years and you get 3.6 million drams. That is slightly less than $10,000. However, since we also provide up to a 20 percent refund — up to 10,000 drams — that 50,000 drams can become 60,000 drams. Consequently, the annual benefit can actually amount to 720,000 drams, and over six years — 4.32 million drams. That is approximately $11,400,” the minister said.
He added that many families will thus receive significant support.
