Court eases measure against Archbishop Bagrat’s aide

The house arrest imposed on Movses Sharbatyan, aide to Archbishop Bagrat, leader of the Sacred Struggle movement, has been lifted.

The Court of General Jurisdiction of First Instance, chaired by Karen Farkhoyan, replaced the preventive measure with administrative supervision, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Sharbatyan is required to report to the probation service twice a week. He is prohibited from leaving his place of residence without the permission of the body conducting the proceedings and from visiting crowded or entertainment venues. From 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., he must remain at his registered address. Administrative supervision will be carried out without electronic monitoring. The 3 million dram bail and the travel ban remain in force. The court did not restrict his participation in liturgies.

The public prosecutor did not object to the defense’s motion, taking into account Sharbatyan’s health condition, including ischemic disease and the need for intensive medical interventions.

In the same case, the house arrest of Karo Okumushyan has been extended for three months.

Okumushyan previously worked as a driver for the family of Arthur Sargsyan, a member of the Hayastan faction.

Meanwhile, the house arrest of blogger Armen Alexanyan, also involved in the Sacred Struggle case, has been lifted and replaced with administrative supervision.

Alexanyan had been under house arrest since November 26, 2025.

The court considered that Alexanyan has a sick father and minor children in need of care. The family is in difficult socio-economic conditions and has effectively been left without its main source of income.

The evidence presented against Alexanyan is a TikTok video in which he cooks an omelet. According to the charges, the video mocked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s preparation of an omelet.

Eighteen people, including Archbishop Bagrat, have been charged in the Sacred Struggle case. According to Armenia’s Investigative Committee, participants and leaders of the movement planned to carry out terrorist acts and actions aimed at seizing power in Armenia.
