YouTube Premium, the ad-free subscription service, is not yet available in Armenia, information security expert Artur Papyan wrote on his Facebook page.
“Advertising on YouTube has started working and is even becoming annoying, and to turn it off one needs to subscribe to YouTube Premium, which is not yet available in Armenia…
In fact, the ads have been activated on a trial basis for now. Full activation will take place in spring, as previously announced, and at the same time the Premium service will be launched,” he wrote.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also addressed the launch of YouTube’s monetization testing in Armenia in a Facebook post.
“Good news. YouTube has started testing its monetization tool in Armenia. This is good news for people who believe they can earn money through visual content, meaning those visible ads indicate that the owners of respective channels can also generate income. With this, we are taking another step toward integration into the global world,” the prime minister noted.
Earlier, it became known that YouTube monetization would begin operating in Armenia and will be fully launched in spring. High-Tech Industry Minister Mkhitar Hayrapetyan described it as “long-awaited news.”
