Pashinyan says Armenia must be its own guarantor

Therе is an opinion that more than one guarantor is needed in the process of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Poland.

“Our perception is that we are our own guarantor,” he said, according to Auroranews.am.

According to the prime minister, Armenia has come to understand that the problem is its own and that it must assume responsibility.

“Much is being said about securing peace with Azerbaijan — that there should be more than one guarantor and so on. In my view, this is a product of our old way of thinking, because we forget that we have already had a de jure, formally recorded security guarantor.

When facing regional challenges, our primary reactions were roughly the following: who should we call? This was our first, second, third and fourth reaction. But at a certain point we realized that this was the wrong approach. The main political change that has taken place within us is that we have understood the problem is ours, and we are the owners of our problem.

Therefore, it is our responsibility to solve that problem. And we have gone and solved our problems, sometimes by doubling, tripling, even quintupling or tenfold increasing our own pain, because we understood that the pain is ours, we must heal it, since it does not hurt others — it hurts us. Consequently, our perception is that we are our own guarantor, through our ability to understand the world, the situation and our problem, and through our ability to find solutions to it,” Pashinyan said.

During the meeting, the prime minister also addressed the goals and expectations of his official visit to Poland, emphasizing the importance of the continued development of relations and expanded cooperation between Armenia and Poland. He outlined the Armenian government’s priorities, speaking about advancing the peace agenda, unblocking regional communications and steps aimed at Armenia’s economic development.

Pashinyan also referred to the “Real Armenia” ideology, presenting its main principles.
