MP questions high closure rate of corruption cases

Armenia’s National Assembly deputy from the Hayastan faction, Artsvik Minasyan, asked Anti-Corruption Committee Chairman Artur Nahapetyan to explain the large number of terminated criminal proceedings.

“You say that 890 proceedings were completed and 617 of them — about 70% — were closed. How do you explain this large number, and how many of them were closed on non-rehabilitative grounds?” Minasyan asked, according to Panorama.am .

Minasyan also requested clarification regarding the wording “former official” mentioned in the report, asking at what point in time the individuals referenced were considered former officials.

“I noted in the report that during 2025, 2,588 criminal proceedings were investigated, of which 617 were closed,” Nahapetyan said.

Minasyan clarified that his question referred specifically to the 890 completed criminal proceedings mentioned in the report, 617 of which had been closed.

He also asked how Nahapetyan assesses the fact that only 102 of the committee’s 243 motions for pretrial detention were approved by courts.

The Anti-Corruption Committee chairman did not give a clear answer to the clarifying question. Regarding the second issue, he said that alongside the approval of 102 detention requests, other preventive measures had also been applied — including 80 cases of house arrest and administrative supervision.
