Armenia has adopted a law on launching the process of joining the European Union, but it does not intend to harm Russia’s interests, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a briefing with journalists.
“I do not remember ever saying that we are going to the West. Usually I say that we are not going anywhere,” he said, according to Panorama.am .
Pashinyan also addressed the issue of the Russian military base stationed in Armenia.
“Fortunately or unfortunately, we are not yet at the point where the Russian military base blocks our field of vision. When we see that the Russian military base blocks our field of vision, then we will think about how to move so that we do not have a problem with our field of vision,” the prime minister said.
He stressed that Armenia has not aimed to harm Russia’s interests.
“We have not had, do not have, and will not have the goal of harming Russia’s interests. Our goal has been, is and will always be to be guided exclusively by Armenia’s state interests,” Pashinyan said.
On December 2, 2025, following the sixth meeting of the Armenia–EU Partnership Council in Brussels, Armenia and the European Union signed the Strategic Partnership Agenda. The document was signed by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
