Iran launches probe into drone strike on Nakhichevan

On March 5, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi informed Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during a phone call that Iran has launched an investigation into drone strikes on Nakhchivan, Oxu.az reports.

According to the report, during the conversation, Bayramov strongly condemned the unmanned aerial vehicle attacks carried out from Iranian territory toward the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic and expressed a firm protest against these actions.

It is also noted that the Iranian foreign minister wished a swift recovery to civilians injured as a result of the attack.

“The Iranian side was also informed that Azerbaijan expects an official apology for the attack, prompt clarification regarding the results of the investigation, and the adoption of all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the statement said.

Earlier, it became known that Iran had carried out a drone strike on Nakhichevan Airport. Several other unmanned aerial vehicles reportedly crashed in different areas.

Later reports said that one of the drones fell near a school. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry summoned Iran’s ambassador to Baku, Mojtaba Demirchilu, and handed him a note of protest.
